Giving you can actually trust.
Most worries about giving online come down to one question: where does the money really go? On Bill Pal the answer is always the same. It goes to the supplier, against the bill.
Every bill is checked by a person
When someone posts a bill, it doesn't go live straight away. The team looks at the photo of the bill and checks it against the supplier, amount and reference that were entered.
- The supplier has to be on our list, or the bill can't go live.
- Bills that look edited, aren't in the person's name, or don't add up are turned down.
- Each person can only have one open bill at a time.
Our checks are careful, but no check is perfect. If anything about a bill looks wrong to you, report it from the bill's details screen and the team will look into it.
Money only goes to suppliers
Never to a person and never as cash. A chip-in is paid from your bank straight into the supplier's own account, using the bill's reference, so it can only go towards that bill.
We never hold it. Bill Pal has no wallet or balance. Payments are made through Open Banking by a regulated payment provider, and you approve every one in your own banking app.
We choose the account, not the bill. We add suppliers' bank details ourselves and check them. Bank details printed on a photo are never used, so a fake bill can't send money anywhere else.
Nobody's details are on show
If you post a bill, people see your first name, town, household size, your note, the supplier, the amounts and the last four characters of your reference. Never your surname, address, email, full reference or the photo.
If you chip in, the person you helped sees "a Bill Pal member" or your town. Not your name.
Information about money trouble is sensitive. We only use it to run Bill Pal. We never sell it or use it for advertising. You can delete your account in the app at any time. Read our privacy notice.
What isn't allowed
Fake or edited bills, bills that aren't yours, offensive notes, and anything that breaks the law. We close accounts that do these things and may report fraud. The full rules are in our terms.
Report the bill in the app, or message the team from Help & support in the Me tab. You can also reach us through our contact page.
